The Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, announced today at the Tourism and Transport Forum Outlook Conference 2012 that tourism business listings within the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse would be translated into Mandarin. The $1million project will see all of ATDW's accommodation, product and experience information translated into Chinese for publication on Tourism Australia's website, making it simple for Chinese travellers to discover what an Australian holiday can offer and to help them plan their next trip, said Minister Ferguson. This initiative builds on the TQUAL Grants Strategic Tourism Investment Grant Welcoming Chinese Visitors Project , which is helping Australian tourism operators to cater for the growing number of Chinese visitors.

Tourism Australia has welcomed today's network launch by Jetstar Japan to future connect five domestic Japanese city markets seamlessly and more affordably with Jetstar international flight offerings on the Japan-Australia route, as a further positive step in reenergising the brand Australia presence in Japan. Tourism Australia believes the arrival of Jetstar Japan will bring positive benefits and be a catalyst for further renewal of the Japan-Australia route as the Jetstar pan Asian airline model is proving successful in capturing strong travel demand in the high-growth Asian market through its low fares and large, increasingly integrated flight network, Mr McEvoy said. © Tourism Australia 2012.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has announced approximately $7.8 million in funding for applicants to operate a Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis for a period of four years, commencing 1 July 2013. 'It will allow researchers to identify and develop advanced risk analysis techniques and methods in line with the strategic objectives for Australia's biosecurity system, 'said Dr Findlay. The new centre will build on work conducted by the Australian Centre of Excellence for Risk Analysis (ACERA), whose methods and procedures for risk management have been adopted and utilised by the government and the wider community.
