The war against fly strike and lice infestations in sheep has taken a positive turn with new research showing that tea tree oil is very effective in treating both of the afflictions. 'The appealing aspect of using tea tree oil as an insecticide is that it is a natural product. More research needs to be conducted before we can definitively say that tea tree oil is a viable treatment for fly strike and lice infestations however these initial findings are very encouraging.'.
New Labour Agreement to Help Tourism Employers

Minister for Immigration and Citizenship . Minister Ferguson said the template labour agreement will help address critical skills shortages in the tourism and hospitality sectors. Tourism injects around $35 billion a year into the Australian economy and the Government is acting to ensure labour and skills issues impacting on the tourism industry's competitiveness are addressed under the National Long Term Tourism Strategy, Tourism 2020.
Ludwig to lead industry delegation to the Middle East- The Hon. Joe Ludwig – Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, will travel to the Middle East this week to meet with Governments and importers regarding the implementation of a new regulatory framework that seeks to ensure Australian livestock exported for slaughter are treated at or above internationally accepted animal welfare standards. Minister Ludwig will lead a delegation of livestock industry members and their representatives to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, all of which are significant markets for livestock exports from Australia. In recognition of this, Minister Ludwig will be joined in the Middle East by a number of Australian exporters, as well as representatives from the Australian Livestock Exporters' Council, Sheepmeat Council of Australia, Livecorp and the Cattle Council of Australia.

More than 650,000 horses are involved in equestrian events, thoroughbred and harness racing in Australia each year. These unfortunate disqualifications may soon be a thing of the past with the release of a new report by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation (RIRDC), which will assist horse owners, trainers and vets to make better informed decisions about how long the substances take to leave a horse's system. 'The outcome of this research will be a marked improvement on the currently available information about excretion times of the drugs which is based on very limited data, sometimes obtained from only one or two horses.
Government Welcomes Australia Pacific LNG-Sinopec Agreement

The deal will see Sinopec take a total of 7.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum from the APLNG Project in Gladstone in Queensland. Subject to Foreign Investment Review Board approval, Sinopec will also increase its equity stake in the project to 25 per cent with the Australian company Origin Energy and the US energy company ConocoPhillips each having a 37.5 per cent interest.. Minister Ferguson said the agreements represent another important milestone for the APLNG project and further cement Australia's place as a major supplier of energy to the Asia Pacific Region, which will be a global economic powerhouse of the 21st century.. This deal further emphasises Australia's link into the Asia Pacific Region and in particular with China. This relationship has continued to build since Australia first started to export LNG from the North West Shelf Venture Project to China in May 2006, Minister Ferguson said..
